Why offset?

There is no practical alternative
Of course from a climate point of view the best thing is not to fly at all. But air travel has become a vital part of our international world. At this time there is no practical alternative technology to replace the jet engine, so the emission of CO2 and other greenhouse gases is unavoidable. Offsetting is currently the only way for you to really do something to counter the impact of your flight on our climate.

Offsetting is not expensive
The price of offsetting is on average between 2 and 5% of the ticket price. To offset a return flight to Milan, for example, only costs EUR 5.98. So for a relatively small sum you can make a concrete contribution to combating the climate problem. You will sit far more comfortably knowing you are sitting in a green seat!

You are not the only one
Fortunately there are already large numbers of people and organisations who are making their air travel ‘green’ by offsetting their carbon emissions. Many organisations and companies (including several government ministries, ING Group, PriceWaterhouseCoopers and Cordaid) offset the business flights of their staff via our parent organisation, Climate Neutral Group. And there are tens of thousands of individual passengers who offset their flights via GreenSeat. So why not join this growing group! More and more travel organisations, such as Cheaptickets and BCD Travel are also integrating the GreenSeat option in their booking procedure.

Contribution to society
Besides ensuring a reduction of CO2 in the atmosphere, all GreenSeat projects contribute to local development in developing countries. Issues such as employment, access to energy and improved living conditions are all important in our decision whether or not to invest in a project. So our projects kill two birds with one stone!

Change the world, beginning with…… (you guessed it,) yourself!
As long as there is no legislation and no agreements are made within the sector, carbon offsetting remains a voluntary choice. At the end of the day it comes down to how willing you are to take responsibility and to make the world a better place. If we all do this, the world really will change for the better. But it begins with yourself!
